Such a lovely day last Friday when the sun shone in contrast to the gloomy day we had the previous week. A perfect day for a long walk around the North Downs. There was a great deal of hill walking and the views were well worth the effort. At one point we were alerted by a familiar hooting sound which I last heard so many years ago as a steam train chugged its way through the countryside, its cloud of steam almost completely obliterating the actual train. At one point we spied a herd of Llamas who were aroused from their grazing by Lolly's barking and came trotting over to see what all the fuss was about, they came as close as they could to their enclosure to peer inquisitively over the fence, happily they were a field away so the dogs failed to notice! Quite a lot of hikers were about, a few joggers and we met a couple of mounted horses along one of the bridle paths when I was quick to put Brigg and Keets on leads, although we went for long periods without seeing a soul. It was a long climb back up to the place where we started out when even my leg muscles felt the strain, we had been walking for over three and a half hours and it was a relief to sit for a few minutes on a bench watching the sun sink behind the hills admiring the view before we made our way back to our vans, we had noticed for some time the temperature sinking and the clear sky told of an impending frost. The inside of my windscreen was already frozen over and it took a little while to clear it before I was able to drive off.
